When the creatives came to me and asked if we could do a car commercial as a student, I said, sure, why not? Had I known what would go into this project in the beginning, I probably wouldn’t have taken it on. But I did, and I’m so grateful that I did. Producing a car commercial on a student budget with a mostly student crew was the hardest project I have ever worked on. I had to figure out production insurance, safety precautions, scheduling impossible days, finding a location that would let us shoot for less than $10,000 for 1 day, and managing a set where someone could have potentially died. I used my connections in the Utah film industry to find a camera chase car, a full grip/lighting trailer, and a licensed pyrotechnic (for the record, I know 3 licensed pyrotechnicians). The entire shoot was the biggest stress but the final product is one of the most rewarding projects I’ve worked on.
